Khaaja Chowk, MG Road

A Disappointment Experience!

I am a big fan of Kebabs; it was a natural selection while hunting for lunch spots in our budget. The restaurant is located on the third floor of plaza mall, which opens up to a bright colour deceiving door. I say deceiving, because as you enter the environment turns out to be sad and boring. The songs are played in the background which is not audible to the ears. They have yellow dim lights which is as dim as they can make the whole environment sleepy.

To appreciate the ambiance to an extent, they have done some fine wooden detailing as chandeliers and some innovation with the dhabba style posters and use of water in a brass jar. They do have some quirky factor, by adding up one corner with rickshaw chair.

Cutting the chase and coming to the food:

We were served with the welcome drinks, Lassi, Cold drinks and butter milk. I am not fond of lassi and butter milk, so, I opted for cold drinks which should ideally be a drink without any flaw. The cold drink was surprisingly served cool and not chilled, negating any pleasure one could derive from an already average atmosphere.

Then we started with the appetizers. The appetizers did not do their job, and the terrible service was not doing anything to help. I felt like I was in a poorly managed hospital, with people running all around me and not one giving us a second look. Everyone was waiting for one thing or the other; they call this a buffet arrangement.

~Hara Bhara kebabs: They were bland and soaked in oil.

~Dahi Puchkas: I have had better dahi puchkas. The curd was sour.

~Tandoori chicken: The chicken pieces were moderate size and well cooked, with no coherent taste in the chicken.

~Chicken banno kebab: Dipped in oil with no good flavour. Bland and Boring!

With not much appetite left, I tried a few bites of the maincourse. I filled my plate with rice which went pretty well with Dal makhani. The chicken masala and mutton rogan josh had a reddish curry; I guess more oil and less gravy.

A waste of money and time. Will I go again? No, not even if it’s for free!
